Interior renovation, Brussels Film Museum

Brussels Film Museum beautifully renovated

With more than 50,000 film titles, the Film Museum in Brussels (originally built in 1962) is world-famous.  Unfortunately, the film storage and technical resources were out of date, leaving the film vulnerable and hindering the ability to display all of its historical archives. As a result, the museum was entirely rebuilt, including a complete new interior – and Gielissen was instrumental in creating and installing many key elements.

Design by Robbrecht & Daem

Cinematek, as the renovated film museum is now called, was designed by the renowned Belgian firm of architects, Robbrecht & Daem from Gent.  Their tendency toward the New Simplicity style, an architectural movement where function defines the form, translates to a minimalist design.  In addition to the exterior, their philosophy is also reflected in the interior of the Cinematek: neutral and calm, while at the same time unconventional and striking.

Realization

Among other elements, Gielissen created the ‘Chamber of Wonders,’ the reception counters and cabinets behind them, the HD screens on the ceiling, the projection walls, the poster and brochure display cases, the computer consoles and the showcase and reading tables.
