Heineken & Gielissen working towards success togetherA home away from home in Canada
Holland Heineken House has been a household name in the world of sports for years now. An initiative of Heineken and the NOC*NSF, it has been the home base for all Dutch athletes, family members and supporters at all Olympic Games since the first time in 1992 in Barcelona. It is the rendezvous, where everything revolves around sports and the sports experience. Also at the Winter Games in 2010.
Surprising combinations
Important for a Holland Heineken House is to create a little piece of the Netherlands abroad under the motto 'Home away from home'. The concept for the design was derived from the Canadian Maple Leaf. Gielissen translated that in graphic form into ice crystals with a Dutch context. That produced surprising combinations that we applied in all kinds of ways, such as on accreditation badges, pay cards, special Heineken bottles, pommes frites bags, wayfinding, internet and smart phone applications, decor and other furnishing elements, crew awards and clothing. So quite an undertaking.
Thirty-seven ocean containers
It was anything but a small operation: thirty-seven ocean containers with a whole range of items, such as five kitchen units, a complete snack bar with the associated, typical Dutch, snacks and fries, refrigerators, 100,000 wristbands, kilometres of cable, cutlery and coffee machines were shipped, and of which four containers with kegs of beer and beer taps. From Heineken, naturally.
