Municipality of Nuenen & Gielissen working towards success togetherVan Gogh Village brings the artist to life
The Van Gogh Village is a very unique concept – it is a visitors center housed in the old town hall in the city of Nuenen. Visitors are presented with a glimpse into the life of Vincent van Gogh during the period in which he called this small village in Brabant his home.
The Potato Eaters
Van Gogh lived in Nuenen from December of 1883 until December of 1885, and therefore the village and its residents appear regularly in his paintings from this period. For instance, Van Gogh’s famous painting “The Potato Eaters” takes place in Nuenen. While the museum does not contain any works by Van Gogh, visitors can see how Van Gogh lived and painted during this time. We used the state-of-the-art production technology to bring this history to life.
A Rich Experience
Tinker Imagineers designed the building of the new visitors centre and we were responsible for the interior design and construction. Van Gogh’s travels, the people who knew him, his letters and the Nuenen landscape form the basis of the exhibition. A video production in which the visitor is peering over the shoulder of Van Gogh while he is painting “The Potato Eaters” is a highlight. The Van Gogh Village is more than just an exhibition – it’s an experience.
