Gently reimagined,
boldly improved
DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station, AmsterdamRenovating a 557-room hotel while it stays open? Gielissen remodeled all the hotel rooms at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station in Amsterdam on a turnkey basis. From the initial meeting to handing over the keys, we took care of everything. No inconvenience, no complicated process, and an exceptional result.
A try-out room: small but effective
Renovating while the hotel remained open involved taking extra precautions. To manage noise levels throughout the make-over, we built a try-out room to measure sound levels in decibels. We continually tested and adjusted our processes so there’d be no disruption for guests.
From demolition to styling
Together with various partners, we worked to a streamlined, phased schedule. Never more than 200 rooms out of commission at any one time, always quiet zones for guests who slept during the day, and an average construction pace of twenty rooms a week. The outcome? An effortless process in which—in one day—you could walk through the hotel and see each room in a different stage of construction.

557 rooms, 40 stories
Thanks to its scale and variation, the project was unique: 557 rooms in no fewer than 40 layouts, 6 design variations, and 12 different suite sizes. The vibrant orange ceiling was a huge success, creating a stunning ambiance in 498 rooms, while the suites with green and beige accents exuded luxury and tranquility.

Design inspired by Amsterdam
The renovation embodies the character and charm of Amsterdam. Designed by King Kongs, the rooms blend terracotta tones, natural materials, and accents from the Amsterdam School. Artwork by Anna's Illustrations, inspired by iconic buildings in Amsterdam, decorate the hallways. The vibe is inviting and elegant.

See you in the clouds
In other words, the bar above Amsterdam. LuminAir, the rooftop bar and the hotel’s crowning glory, takes you into the clouds—literally and figuratively. Curious to discover more about this project? You can read the full story here.
