Confidence
from day one
TomTom - Amsterdam, Berlin, MadridSometimes everything falls into place. TomTom’s Berlin office sought an interior builder experienced in designing entire office interiors and familiar with the local area. Instead of explaining why we were perfect for the job, we decided to just show them!
Peter, our Account Director, caught a train to Berlin and took the client to see an office project we had completed for a major sports brand—a reference that matched the client’s requirements perfectly. Peter personally showed the client around. No sales pitch, simply walking through the space together, talking about how the design had come to fruition, and what worked really well. That’s when everything fell into place. Encouraged by the open atmosphere, Peter’s story, and the quality of the work, the client felt confident enough to move forward. The TomTom Berlin contract soon followed. Amsterdam was next—where we could do even more—and then came Madrid.

Brainstorming
right from the start
Right from the start, we were given plenty of scope to get involved and brainstorm ideas for the Amsterdam office. The assignment wasn’t handed to us as a ready-made package. TomTom was looking for a partner that could think on its feet, advise, and deliver. We were familiar with all the details thanks to our collaboration in Berlin, so we knew what to expect from each other—which is why the client was confident we’d do a great job in the Amsterdam location as well.

We unexpectedly had the opportunity to take on the design of the restaurant. The designer TomTom had originally hired dropped out before the project began. TomTom promptly asked us if we could take on the job. Peter talked ideas through with Gielissen’s design team, and a week later we had a design that matched the office’s style and ambience. Eight weeks later, it was finished.

An office
that welcomes
The office on Piet Heinkade exudes tranquility and warmth. Lots of wood, PET-felt, light colors and materials like Solid Surface. Besides the restaurant, we realized a large coffee bar, pantries on all floors and a spacious event space at the top of the building.

From photo
to redesign
The elevator core also underwent a makeover. We chose a clever solution instead of a major renovation. The walls are covered in PET-felt panels, milled to resemble battens and match the color palette of the interior.

One team
three cities
Creating the interior for Amsterdam clarified our vision, and we were soon asked to design the Madrid office. And as long as we keep navigating in the same direction, as far as we’re concerned, there’s no end in sight!
